Lathe House

About the label

Two rooms, six artists, one release a season

Lathe House started in 2017 in a former print works. We record most of our records ourselves, press them in small runs and post them from the same building.

Lathe House is run by three people: Ines Calder, who engineers most of the records, Elsie Moran, who runs the label and writes most of what you read here, and Sam Okoro, who masters everything.

We put out three or four records a year. Every one is on vinyl, most are on CD, and all of them are available as downloads in lossless formats. Runs are small, usually 300 to 600 copies, and we repress the ones people keep asking for.

Sending us music

We listen to everything that comes in, but slowly. Send a link to two or three songs and a few lines about yourself through the contact page. We reply to every message, usually within a month.

  1. Recording

Most records are made in Room 1 (the big one) or Room 2 (the small one), with Ines Calder engineering.

  2. Mastering

Sam Okoro masters every release twice: once for the vinyl cut and once for CD and download.

  3. Test pressing

Five test copies come back from the plant. We play every side before approving the run.

  4. Pre-order

The release goes up for pre-order about three months ahead, once the test pressing is approved.

  5. Release day

Pre-orders are packed in order and posted in release week; downloads go out on the day.
